Diabetes Problem Information

India is the diabetes capital of the world for more than 40 million patients in the country. International Diabetes Federation in the number of diabetics in India has grown by about 19 million in 1995 to around 40.9 million in 2007. This figure should grow by about 69.9 million by 2025. Currently, about 11 percent of the urban population in India and about 3 percent of the rural population is over 15 years suffer from this disease.

Another concern is quality of health workers in India. A recent study by the World Health Organization has found that about 47% of the population in developed industrial situations are overweight. About 27 percent of respondents who suffer from hypertension and about 10 percent have diabetes. The study found that workers are at greater risk of developing chronic diseases such as obesity, heart attack, stroke and cancer.
